The Colorado Association of Local Public Health Officials (CALPHO) is the statewide organization representing local public health agencies in Colorado. Its purpose is to support improvement in the quality, capacity, and leadership of local public health agencies in order to provide a more effective and efficient local public health infrastructure statewide.
2009 Goals for CALPHO
- Support member agencies in the implementation of the Public Health Act of 2008.
- Communicate with the public health community and the public on the value and investment of public health.
- Develop a research network to track changes in public health structure caused by implementation of the Public Health Act of 2008, identify characteristics of successful regionalization of services, and identify creative funding sources for member agencies.
- Assist local public health agencies with Emergency Preparedness, Tobacco Control, Chronic Disease Programming, and the manner in which those federal and state funds are distributed to local public health agencies.
- Help prepare local public health agencies for voluntary national accreditation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support the entire public health community by providing services to 10 public health associations through the Public Health Alliance.
- Nurture and improve local public health relationships with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the Colorado Counties, Inc., the Colorado General Assembly, and the Colorado School of Public Health.
- Educate county commissioners about public health through the Public Health Track at the annual CCI meeting, new commissioner orientation, and special events.
- Build the capacity and competency of all public health workers.
